Waiting with Purpose
A Walk Through the Book of 1 Thessalonians. 1 Thessalonians is about waiting with purpose. The most prominent theme is the second coming of Christ. It is mentioned in every chapter of his letter. As they wait for Jesus to return, Paul gives thanks and celebrates their faithfulness to God. He was concerned because he was only there for 3 weeks. The Christians in Thessalonica were facing persecution. Paul writes to help them preserve their faith, hope, love, and witness. His purpose in writing is to rekindle their passion for the things of God. He wants them to wait with purpose. He doesn’t want them to waste time. As believers, our hope is rooted in a future Kingdom that is coming. A Kingdom with no sorrow, sadness, or tears. However, as we root our hope in the future Kingdom, we do not live passively here on earth. Waiting with purpose means living a life of mission and movement while we anticipate and wait for the Lord’s return.
